Trailer Connector Fit for 2017 VW Tiguan

Updated 04/14/2020 | Published 04/12/2020

Question:

I have a 2017 VW Tiguan 2.0 SEL. It came with a pre wired from the factory 7 way plug under the bumper that i found when i installed a hitch. Ive been told that i need a $400 control module and a $200 codinginch done at the dealer to make my trailer lights work. You guarantee that the Tekonsha #118675 if installed correctly, will alleviate the need to have this other work done? I see VW parts for 2016 and 2018 but nothing for a 2017. I just dont want to buy an install kit and still not have my trailer lights work.

The Tekonsha # 118675 you referred to is designed for vehicles that aren't equipped with the tow package, but if it were to be used on a vehicle with the tow package, it would be a plug-and-play installation, as I've shown in the linked video. Installing this harness would provide lighting circuits for the trailer, and would bypass would simply bypass the 7-way.

It's a bit unusual for a vehicle to have a factory 7-way trailer connector that isn't fully functional when the vehicle is delivered, but European vehicle manufacturers like VW, Mercedes, Audi and BMW do things a little differently.
