Question:

I have a 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I am having clearance issues mounting the hitch mounted tire carrier. The towing capacity is 5000lbs and tongue weight is 500lbs. The total weight of the hitch mounted tire carrier, wheel, tire and gas can is 180lbs. Will this extension solve my problem? Thank you.

A hitch adapter, like an extender, reduces the overall capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. Since you mentioned your tongue weight capacity is 500 lbs, the use of this extender will reduce that to 250 lbs. But since the total weight of your hitch-mounted tire carrier, wheel, tire and gas can is 180 lbs, you are under the capacity and good to go!
