Question:

Will this work with the Honda 2200i generator? Also, can you use the 30 amp cord plugged in with it still locked or does it get in the way?

I have a solution for you, but the 16x21 TorkLift Lock and Load SideKick Cargo Carrier # TLA7901 is going to provide a pretty tight fit and the upright arms are going to make using the plug-ins while on the carrier difficult. I would instead use the 24x27 TorkLift # TLA7752 which has a larger tray and an adjustable divider that will allow you to carry the generator in a manner that will allow you to plug in without interference from the upright of the carrier. It's not that the 16x21 won't fit the generator, but the 24x27 carrier provides a much better option.

I have a Honda 2200 Companion and want to use the 30-amp plug. I looked all over your site and the internet and only found a couple of UFO sighting type pictures of a Honda 2000 with any view of the plug side of the tray. Even your instruction video only shows a few seconds of the plug side. Seems this viewpoint is strategically avoided.I really want to use this TLA7901 to plugin and run the generator while mounted. But if the 30-amp receptacle is blocked, then I cant use it. Though I am not completely opposed to the 24x27 it is much larger than needed plus I have my reservations about the security efficiency of the captivation bar on the 24x27 compared to the 16x21 for a smaller generator. The 16x21 has a C channel bar, the 24x27 is flat. Is there an adapter or other solution to captivate and run a Honda 2200 companion on a hitch mount tray with clearance for the 30-amp receptacle?

I looked into this a bit more and found that the upright arms on the TorkLift # TLA7901 would indeed block the 30 amp outlet on your Honda 2200i Companion Generator. This means the better option would be the roomier # TLA7752 that would allow space for the plug to feed through. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but hopefully it at least gives you a sure answer.

Well then, all the videos showing the Honda running while mounted on the TLA7901 are misleading. I am not sure there is any value running a generator without plugging it into something. If I am to use the TLA7752 will the captivation bar securely anti-theft hold the Honda 2200? I have seen pics of a Honda 2000/2200 mounted on a TLA7752 from front to back with the captivation bar parallel along the top of the handle not perpendicular. Will this keep the 2200 securely mounted during travel and running while mounted? Will not this bar also obstruct the AC receptacles?

I reached out to my contact at TorkLift to get his thoughts on this. He said in their experience the Honda 2200 actually WILL fit the smaller # TLA7901. He said it's a snug fit, but you can get the plug to connect to the 30 amp outlet. He did also say that the larger # TLA7752 has been used with this generator before too. It does allow for more room to maneuver the cord around when plugging it in and the locking mechanism still works (customers typically run the horizontal bar through the top handle of the generator).
