Question:
I have the old model and wanted more options so I purchased the new model and a ball. Why is this model so sloppy in the receiver? Old model barely moved but this one will bounce up, down, left, right. It more rounded than squared and I’m kinda scared of it.

The Curt Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitches # C45460 does seem to have pretty round corners. Most likely they made it this way so that it can fit in the Ford 2-1/2 inch hitches which are known to have very round corners and hard to fit ball mounts into.
In general hitch movement is something that people deal with quite a bit. I'd say you got pretty lucky with old ball mount if it fit so tightly that you didn't have any movement. You could use the Quiet Hitch # RM-061 though to take out that movement though as that's what most have to do.
