Features to know about

Built for Serious Loads: 20,000 lbs GTW Strength

When the job calls for pulling heavy equipment, large campers, or a loaded boat trailer, this mount is made to handle it. The solid, 1-piece forged steel construction carries a 20,000 lbs gross towing weight and 2,000 lbs tongue weight rating. It’s the kind of setup that stays solid under pressure and doesn’t flinch when you hook up something big.

Keeps Your Trailer Level: 8" Drop for Precise Height Matching

Towing with a trailer that sits too high or low can make things feel unstable. This mount’s built-in 8" drop helps you line everything up so your trailer stays level and tracks straight. The fixed design keeps the geometry consistent, and once installed in your 2-1/2" receiver, it’s ready to tow without extra adjustments.

Ready to Tow Out of the Box: Pre-Torqued 2-5/16" Ball

No need to fuss with torquing or assembly. The mount comes pre-fitted with a 2-5/16" chrome-plated hitch ball that’s torqued to factory specs, so you can slide it into the hitch and go. The precision fit keeps things tight and secure, making it simple to get your trailer connected and rolling fast.

Fights Rust and Wear: Carbide Black Powder Coat Finish

Road grime, salt, and weather can do a number on towing gear. The forged steel shank wears a durable carbide black powder coat that helps resist rust, chipping, and UV damage. The hitch ball’s chrome plating adds more corrosion protection, keeping both parts looking clean and working smooth after long trips.

Solid, Straightforward Setup: Fixed Mount That Stays Put

Some folks like adjustable gear, but if you prefer something that just works every time, this fixed ball mount hits the mark. With fewer moving parts and nothing to jiggle loose, it stays steady mile after mile. It’s the kind of reliable towing gear you install once and trust every time you haul.

Video Transcript for Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitch Spec Review

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, I'm gonna take a look at this Curt heavy duty forged ball mount with the 2 5/16 inch diameter ball for a 2 1/2 inch hitch. Has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this ball mount with this attached hitch ball will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. A shank portion right here is what'll slide into your vehicle's 2 1/2 inch hitch receiver and up front, the hitch ball right here provides the connection point for your trailer's coupler. And as we mentioned, the ball size it's 2 5/16 diameter.

The ball mount will provide a drop or a rise to fit your application. It's an nice solid one-piece forged steel construction, uses corrosion resistant carbide black powder coat finish on it and then a chrome plating on the ball. Now, if you put it in the drop position, which would be this position, it'll get you a maximum drop of 8 inches. And that's from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. We mentioned if you flip this over and put it into your hitch, you'll get a rise, but you do need to make sure you remember you have to break this ball loose and switch that over also.

The rise it'll get you is a 6 1/2 inch maximum rise. The hitch ball does come installed and torqued to factory specs. We mentioned it's a corrosion-resistant chrome plating on it. Now to install this into hitch receiver, it will require a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock to secure the ball mount to your hitch receiver, and that is not included. We do sell those separate on our website.

The hitch pin and clip which will go through the hole right here, the hole is 5/8 of an inch diameter. So if you already have a 5/8 inch diameter hitch pin it should work for you. And also we mentioned the hitch lock. If you want to actually lock this to your hitch so nobody would take it, we do sell those separately also Application again, it fits 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 trailer hitch receiver. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds, tongue weight capacity of 2000 pounds.

One note I do wanna mention that if you do use this in the rise position where you flip it over, the capacities will change to a gross towing weight of 16,000 pounds or a tongue weight of 1600 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Curt heavy duty forged ball mount with the 2 5/16 diameter ball for a 2 1/2 inch hitch..

This heavy duty trailer 8” drophitch with locking pin is amazing. A solid steel construction with no welds is very well made. This hitch fits into my 2 1/2” 10,000# rated receiver and won’t have any problem pulling my car trailer loaded with a Jeep and other items.

by:

As with all Curt products I’ve used, top notch!

by:

Outstanding chunk of forged steel. I like this because I just have trust issues with a welded hitchbar towing a 12k trailer and putting 50k+ miles/year on it. LOVE the fact that it comes with the ball already installed and torqued to spec. Take it out of the box, lock it onto the truck, and hit the road!

VERY well, unlike everything else involved with trailering, this product has required little-to-no maintenance other than a little grease every now and then.

@John Hey John, really appreciate you coming back with the one year update. That kind of long term feedback is super helpful, especially for folks towing as much as you are. It’s great to hear this mount has held up with minimal maintenance and is still giving you that same confidence on the road. A quick bit of grease now and then is about all these really need, so it sounds like it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to. Out of curiosity, are you still towing that same 12k trailer setup or have you changed things up at all since last year?

There's a lot of fancy ball mounts out there. I like the tried and true "huge chunk of steel" option. Those fancy ball mounts come with a lot of failure points as well. This is a massive piece of metal, with a ball and a pin. That's it. People have been towing this way forever. Why risk being fancy and watching your trailer pass you on the freeway? Find the drop you need, get a big hitch like this and call it a day. These hitches are cheaper and stronger than nearly anything out there.

I love that, “huge chunk of steel” is about as honest as it gets. There’s definitely something to be said for keeping it simple. No moving parts, no extra pieces to worry about, just solid steel doing its job mile after mile. Hard to beat that kind of reliability when you’re towing. Sounds like you’ve got a setup you trust, which is really what matters most. What are you usually hauling with it?

by:

Heavy duty (very heavy)seems to be a better stable towing hitch compared to the adjustable hitches .Great quality ,etrailer had fast gree shipping
