Curt Weight Distribution System Compared to Husky Center Line System for Towing Camper

Published 12/09/2019

Question:

Help me decide why to choose one over the other: Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System with Shank, 600 lbs. TW, 6,000 lbs. GTW Item # 17300 versus Husky Center Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW Item # HT32215 Other than the sway control, one uses chains, the other uses spring bars. I already have a Curt friction sway control bar. Do the chains hang lower? Are the chains quieter, ie no popping and such when I back up? Does either need to be disconnected to back up? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks. Tow vehicle is a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe 5000lb tow rating, 500lb tongue weight looking at towing a 20ft, GVWR 4000lb trailer. Currently towing a popup without weight distribution.

Between the Curt and the Husky Center Line systems I 'd recommend the Husky Center Line. The Curt systems aren't terrible but they had a few issues with the the chain hangers and a few other manufacturing issues initially whereas the Husky systems are gaining quite a bit of popularity as people are reporting how well they work and have a price that's tough to beat. There isn't a similar system in this price range that comes close to how well the Husky Center Line systems work so I'd recommend the # HT32215 for you!

Both kits use spring bars as the device the distributes the tongue weight but the Curt uses chains and the Husky use lower L-shaped brackets. The L-brackets act as a bit of a sway control system too as they add friction to when the springs bars slide on the bracket as the trailer turns.

As long as you are backing up mostly straight either kit can be left hooked up. The noise level would be about the same either system.
