Question:
Will this hitch #75526 fit the All Wheel Drive version of the 2009 Ford Edge? Do you recommend using a higher capacity hitch kit than 3500 lbs for the AWD Ford Edge? Can a Mechanic at a car center like AAA install this product? Can a trailer wiring kit be easily installed separately at a later date?

Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 75992, fits all models of the 2009 Ford Edge except the Sport model so it will fit your AWD model provided it is not a Sport. If it is a Sport, you would use # 75686.
In terms of what capacity you should use, you will need to consult the vehicle owners manual to determine what the towing capacity is of the vehicle as equipped and go by that. Even if a hitch is rated higher, you must go by the lowest rated component in the system.
A qualified mechanic can perform the hitch installation. It is even something that you may be able to do at home. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to review.
If you plan on doing some towing I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit, # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For trailer wiring, which you can add at a later date, you will need # 118551. It is not a difficult installation but does require a direct connection to the vehicle battery to power the trailer lights and protect the vehicle electrical system. This just adds time to the installation is not overly difficult. I have included some instruction links on the wiring and an FAQ that will help.
