Solution for Towing Trailer with 7-Way Round and Separate Lighting with Ford F-350

Published 10/09/2019

Question:

I need information/ adapter # for 7 round pin female that is for semi trucks that uses 3 circuits for left turn/right turn/ brakes to a 7 flat male for a standard Ford F-350 where 2 circuits are used for turn signals and brakes. Trailer is NOT an Rv and has a male 7 round plug and the truck has 7 flat female. Does such a creature even exist

We actually do have wiring adapters available that go from a 7-Way blade connector on the truck to a 7-Way round on the trailer, such as with the Pollak # PK12727, however since the circuits are separated on the trailer side an additional converter would still need to be added and the adapter itself would likely need to be re-wired. For this reason I recommend going a different route.

I honestly think the easiest solution is going to be to simply add a second 7-Way on your truck, using something like the Pollak 7-Way Round # PK11720. You can splice this in-line with the existing 7-Way on the F-350 to maintain its function but you will use the Curt 2-to-3 Wire Tail Light Converter # C56196 between the 7-Way round connector and wiring to separate out those signal light functions.

Doing this allows you to have both 7-Way connector styles ready to go on the truck (if you ever need to tow a trailer with a more traditional 7-Way blade), allows you to maintain the current wiring on the trailer, and eliminates the need to mess with a separate adapter each time you need to tow.
