Can Larger Tire be Used When Lift Kit is Added to Trailer

Updated 09/04/2019 | Published 09/02/2019

Question:

After u put this lift on how much bigger tire do u think would fit. Currently i have the standard 20.5x8x10 on there and i blew one this weekend and the other isnt far behind. It sits to low as it is and was thinking of getting a set of 175/80D13 with wheels for the way it sits now but if i could go bigger that would be nice. My camper is a 97 jayco 1206 with the torflex axle.

Since the Torflex Lift Kit # K71-723-01 will put the frame of your trailer up 2-5/8" higher than what it is now you can go with a bigger tire size. The largest that I recommend going with is the ST185/80R13 for which we have the Kenda Karrier # AM10208. This has a Load Range D (1,710 lbs at 65 psi), a speed rating of 81 mph, an overall outer diameter of 24.7", and a section width of 7.2". Just make sure that you have 4" of wheel well clearance to account for suspension travel and at least 2" of frame clearance and you are good to go.

One of the benefits of using the tire that I mentioned is that it is a radial tire which performs better on highways ans roads than a bias tire does.
