Does the Vinyl Trim Insert Need To Be Pushed Flat When Measured
Updated 08/20/2020 | Published 09/01/2019 >
Question:
After looking over all the QandA still not sure what trim to order. I have a 2005 Jayco Granite Ridge motor home. The exterior trim has cracked and come off. The old trim is approximately 3/4 inch wide but is humped up in the middle creating a crown effect. It appears all of the trims you offer are flat. I am not sure if the rounded part of the trim is factory original or if the flat trim has humped up over time. The trim is fairly hard, not soft and supple. If forced to go completely flat would probably be an inch wide. The vinyl has hardened over time so I am guessing the original was probably flat maybe 1 inch wide and naturally had some hump to it when installed at the factory. The rail it fits in is about 1 1/8 inch wide with a slot about 5/8 inch wide plus the side slots that the trim fits into.

Expert Reply:
It is not uncommon for the trim insert pieces to deform over time as they sit inside the channel. When ordering a replacement, it is best to press the hump flat and then measure the width once this is done. I would be willing to bet you are going to get around 7/8" wide while pressed flat and if that is the case then you are going to want to go with a 1" wide replacement, part # CAM25202, part # CAM25222, or part # CAM25192.

I am installing the vinyl trim strip and it goes around the 4 corners! When installed the strip humps as the inside is less distance than the outside of the corner! How do I install so it stays flat around the corner! This happened on all the old strips in time that's why I'm replacing it! One person suggested a heat gun but nor sure about that
