Will The Yakima DoubleHaul Rooftop Fly Rod Carrier Damage the Reels Or Guides On My Rod
Updated 08/25/2020 | Published 08/23/2019 >
Question:
I need something to carry my fly fishing poles on the roof of my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I did have the Rod Vault but the reels and guides kept getting damaged. Is this going to happen with the Yakima? I drive on rough terrain when i go fishing and I don't want my rods damaged. I would be using this on a factory roof rack.

One of things that sets the Yakima DoubleHaul Rooftop Fly Rod Carrier part # Y04087 a part from the other rod carriers like the Rod Vault is the cushioned reel box. The reel box is padded for side placement of the reels to reduce wear on your reels. The reel box is also versatile in the size of reels it carries, the top 2 slots will work with 12-wt reels and the bottom 2 slots fit 10-wt reels. Yakima does recommend to insert the rods into the tubes with guides facing up or to the side to avoid guide epoxy scuffing.
The Rod Carrier fits nicely on factory roof rack bars hat have a crossbar spread between 27"-108". The design of the DoubleHaul makes it easy to tighten the clamps down on the bar with the integrated knobs. The knobs on the clamps of the carrier will not allow it to slide or move on the crossbars at all allowing your rods to bounce around. Yakima designed the DoubleHaul to ensure a snug and tight fit around round, square, aerodynamic, elliptical, and factory crossbars.

Hi. How wide of a crossbar will the doublehaul attach too? I have a 2006 Jeep Commander Limited with the factory crossbars that are 3 1/2 inches wide. Thanks!
