How Close to Trailer Weight Should Capacity of Trailer Leaf Spring Be

Question:
Trying to pick double eye leaf spring replacements for boat trailer. I think its more than replacing what I have exactly... 1st question I have: is spring rating based only on static load, not dynamic loading? If I think my boat + trailer is 2200 lbs what size springs needed? 2nd Q - my axle is 1 inch spindle, 74 hub face to hub face. I think it may be 2000 lb rated... it might be slightly overloaded as evidence by tire wear on inside edges. my boat trailer has double eye leaf springs. 4 leaf, 1 3/4 wide, all 4 together are 1.215 thick. unloaded, free open height is 3.25, loaded is 2.25 2.25 is a problem... I think springs are wore out or undersized boat got heavier? tires rub underside of fenders and gap looks too small stationary. 3rd Q how much over can total weight be relative to axle rating? is 200lb a big deal? 4th Q if axle is ok, should I get springs rated for 1250 lb each? Except I fear the free open height needs to be bigger than 3.25??? Lots of Qs thanks for advice

Our trailer leaf springs are rated for dynamic axle load. Which means the capacity listed but in use on the highway under normal circumstances.
Since your trailer is 2,200 lbs loaded you want to go for a spring capacity 2,200 lbs or slightly higher.
For you second question it sounds like your springs are worn out. You do want to have 4-1/2 inches of fender clearance between the fender and your tire when the trailer is unloaded.
Ideally you are within a couple hundred lbs of the total trailer weight with the spring capacity you go with. 2,500 lb part # e66SR would be your best option based on that.
