Installing a fifth wheel hitch into the bed of the Toyota Tundra TRD is not terribly difficult once you have the rails installed. I recommend to use the Reese custom install kit part # RP50084-58 to give you rails in the bed of your 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD. These rails will fit all bed sizes of the Toyota Tundra. The rails do require some drilling into the bed but the brackets are custom so they do not require drilling into the frame. I have attached the installation instructions for your reference.
The fifth wheel hitch I recommend is Reese 20K Fifth wheel part # RP30928 which features a single-hook jaw for a better connection with the king pin to cut down on movement between the king pin and jaw. This will also help with rattling noises while towing. This is a fixed hitch so will only work with the 8 foot bed Tundra.
The 6 foot bed Tundra requires the Reese 16K Fifth Wheel hitch with slider part # RP30051 to allow the truck to make turns without interference with the fifth wheel. The slider allows for 10" of travel front to back for clearance when turning. The slider will prevent the trailer from hitting from the cab of your Tundra. It also comes with the single-hook jaw.
Finally, if your Tundra is a 5-1/2 foot bed, if you will need to use the fixed 20K hitch and rails that I mentioned earlier part # RP30928 with a Sidewinder King Pin in order to make turns in the short bed truck. The Sidewinder moves the pivot point behind the king pin 22" so that you can make turns with your towing setup. I would need to know your pin box measurements or pin box model number in order to get you the correct Sidewinder. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to choose a Sidewinder.
You will also need Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Plug part # 41157 which will plug in line with the existing 7-way on the Tundra and extend to the cab of the bed so you have a separate 7-way plug to plug the fifth wheel into to make hooking up more convenient.
