Does Spring Seat to Spring Seat Dimension of Trailer Axle Have to Match Perfectly for Replacement

Question:
I need to replace a 2000 pound rated dexter 1 3/4 inch diameter axle Dexter 133020382 and product number D20 51951. The underslung cambered axle is off of the trailer and measures 47 inches from spring mount to spring mount and 65 1/4 inches overall from spindle end to spindle end. The trailer came with hubs that are 5 lug and the tires are 12 inch tires. The closest etrailer product number that I can find is 205451 st-60-15, but that spring mount measurement is 48 inches from spring mount to spring mount. I am afraid that this will not match. is there a different axle available or will the 48 inch spring mount be okay?

You really have to match the distance between the spring seats exactly when replacing an axle. You could move the spring seats of the # 20545I-ST-60-10 a 1/2 inch in on either side to match the dimension you need since this is the closest axle to the dimensions you need. Or you'd have to find a local trailer shop to you who could order you in the axles you need based on this dimension matching as well as the hub face to hub face dimension of your old axle. I attached a picture that has the dimensions you need to take as well.
If I were in your shoes I'd custom order an axle to the specs you need instead of buying an axle and then having to modify it and also not knowing if its correct hub face dimension as well.
