Should Tandem Axle Trailer Suspension Shackles be Replaced One Axle at a Time
Updated 02/21/2019 | Published 02/20/2019 >
Question:
When replacing shackle straps on a dual axle 28foot travel trailer should I lift one side both axles at the same time and complete one side first? Or should I do one axle first both sides then raise the other axle and do both sides of it? And why? Thanks!

Expert Reply:
I'd recommend doing one axle at a time. Jack the trailer up by the frame on both sides and then jack the axle up to take the load off of it and then replace the shackles. Trying to do both sides at one time will be hard as the components will most likely have tension in them which will prevent them from from easily being removed and reinstalled.
