Can this bike rack hold only 2 bikes as well as 4?

You could easily carry just 2 bikes with the Saris SuperClamp EX 4 Bike Platform Rack # SA4026F instead of using all 4 spots on the rack, but I believe you are really asking if the rack can be split up so that the portion of the rack that holds the outer two bikes could be removed. This rack does not split up. You could do the same with the Thule T2 Pro XTR part # TH69TX. You could carry 1-4 bikes. This rack also tilts, and only touches the bikes at the tires as well.

Saris says this rack converts to a 2-bike rack "You can carry only 2-bikes. However, if you wish to shorten the racks overall length, you will need to purchase a new hitch receiver tube assembly." Do you sell this part and can you explain how this works?
