Steel Thickness of Curt Front Mount Receiver Hitch # 31367
Published 01/18/2019 >
Question:
What is the thickness of the steel for this hitch. Ive read that you can make a slight modification to this hitch so it will fit a 2003 4Runner, but it requires welding new gussets onto the tow loop mounts on the hitch. Thanks

I went out to our warehouse and measured the thickness of the steel on the Curt Front Mount Hitch Receiver # 31367 with a digital caliper. The steel on the crosstube measured 0.255 inch thick and the steel on the mounting brackets are 0.342 inch thick. The tow hooks themselves have a 1/2 inch diameter.
I have attached an image to assit.
I have not heard of a customer modifying this particular hitch so that it fits your 2003 Toyota 4Runner so I am not sure what that process would entail. Please just note that modifying the hitch will void the manufacturer's warranty and may also lead to a reduction in capacity.
