Atwood Landing Gear Replacement for 36 Long Landing Gear

Updated 02/21/2026 | Published 08/02/2018

Question:

I require a lead leg for my 5th wheel. It’s an Atwood product and I understand that Lippert has bought them out. The leg is 36” long and 2 1/2” diameter. I’m unable to find one

To replace the Atwood landing gear on your 5th wheel trailer you will need to measure the distance between your weld stops. This is typically 15-1/2" on the inside and 17-1/2" on the outside (see attached photo). We do have replacement options but since Atwood is no longer in the landing gear business you need to replace your whole landing gear set to ensure that the gear ratio and strengths are the same.

If your weld stop locations match the picture then I recommend using the 8,000 lb Landing Gear Set # RVLG-8000. These feature a retracted height of 32-3/4" and an extended height of 53-1/4". For a manual crank use part # RVLG-HDL but if you would like to add a motor use part # LC142178.

You cant find them . I had the same issue with mine. Is your internal tube just sliding up and down the jackscrew, due to the thrust nut being worn? This is what I found on my landing gear. Nobody makes that thrust nut for the jackscrew. So you either remove your existing landing and get what is close (33 1/2") and then have the camper modified (braces relocated) . That is going to be costly. So here is what I did . I removed the thrust nut for the jackscrew on the inner tubes. Brought it to a reputable machine shop and had them remove and replace the damaged brass threaded bushing and had an entirely new thrust nut fabbed for 375.00. So I got two rebuilt thrust nuts and and extra just incase. Way better than 2000 dollars + easy .
