Clutch Does Not Lock on the Dutton-Lainson TW4000 StrongArm Electric Winch

Question:
Clutch will not lock when pulling in boat
asked by: Donald
Expert Reply:
There could be two possible reasons as to why the clutch is not engaging when you are pulling in your boat with the Dutton-Lainson TW4000 StrongArm Electric Winch part # DL25200. The first reason is the simplest to fix and it entails tightening the clutch which is explained on page 4 of your owner's manual. The other possible cause is a faulty brake. In order to check this you will want to remove the winch cover to observe which parts are moving as the load slips out. This should pinpoint the problem. If the motor shaft is turning, replace the roller clutch assembly which is part 304698 from the manufacturer.
