What is Purpose of Light on RV Water Heater Switch

Question:
Sometimes the red button comes on with either gas or electric use. It sometimes comes on and goes off. What causes red light to come on

The light of the Replacement Double-Panel On/Off Switch for Atwood Gas and Electric Combination Water Heaters # AT91230 is designed to show when either switch is turned on so that you don't forget the water heater is on. If yours comes on and off at random times that would indicate that maybe the wiring isn't making a consistent connection.
