Recommended Bike Rack for Bacchetta Giro A20 Recumbent Bike

Updated 07/26/2018 | Published 07/25/2018

Question:

I have a 2018 Honda CRV with a 2” receiver and would like to transport my Bacchetta Giro A20 recumbent. I am concerned about the boom with crank that sticks out over the front wheel. Please se the Bacchetta website for pictures. It has a 20” front wheel and a 26” rear wheel and a 48” wheel base. It weighs about 33 pounds. I want a single bike rack that folds up. Will the th1 work? Also, I would be interested in other options you may suggest. Thanks

I may have a solution for you, however the RockyMounts HighNoon FC Solo Bike Rack # RKY87RR referenced in your question isn't a good option for your Bacchetta Giro A20 recumbent bike. The issue, as you mentioned, is the crank that sticks out beyond the front wheel. This will prevent the hook on wheel-mount racks like this one from getting access to and clamping down onto the wheel. Because of this design on your bike, you will need to go with a platform-style rack that uses a frame-mount design instead.

I recommend taking a look at the Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 2 Recumbents Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # SA4412B-R. This particular bike rack is actually specifically designed for recumbent bikes. It features a maximum wheelbase of 57inches, which is more than enough for the 48 inch base on your bike. I know you said that you wanted a single bike rack. This is a double, but you can certainly use it for only 1 bike.

I just recommend adding the Anti-Rattle Hitch lock # SA3022 and Cable Lock Set # SA981 to secure everything into place and help deter theft.
