Question:
Hi there, I am looking for a trailer hitch that is 2inch for my 2012 BMW 3 series sedan. I understand that there is a 1-1/4inch one for that with an adapter but wouldnt that be just stressing the receiver anyway? Thank you.

For a 2" hitch for your BMW 3 series, we have the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit - Custom Fit - 2" # SH33VR. This custom hitch is a premium option that comes with the ball mount with ball and the receiver opening. It also includes the wiring harness required for towing. It is completely hidden when not in use.
There is a more economical option available, but it is a Class I, 1-1/4" hitch receiver for your 2012 BMW 3 Series such as the Curt # C11367. You can use the 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch Adapter # HTAD with one but if by stressing the receiver you mean the adapter will lower your hitch capacity, you are correct. It will actually lower it by 50 percent, which means your tongue weight capacity would be just 100 lbs, and that is the total amount of weight a bike rack and bikes, for example, could weigh if on the hitch.
