Troubleshooting Powered Landing Gear that Clicks But Does not Raise/Lower

Updated 10/02/2024 | Published 06/06/2018

Question:

I had a problem with lifting my 2008 Keystone. The motor made loud clicking noise. Bought new motor and gearbox. Same result. Legs move up and down with no load. When I try to raise the trailer it just clicked. Any ideas?

The clicking you are describing sounds electrical. Kind of like when a vehicle doesn't want to start due to a dead battery it makes a clicking sound. When powered fifth wheel landing gear setups make this noise it's typically due to a weak battery powering the motor or a weak ground. The simplest fix can sometimes be just tighting the terminals on the battery or the power/ground wires on the landing gear motor.

Sounds to me like the bevel gears are jumping the teeth.

@DaveC That's definitely a possibility. William never got back to us to let us know what it was though.
