Question:
I have a Pontiac vibe with a 1 1/4 hitch size. I now live in Germany and need to conform to their standards, which is an ISO 50mm tow ball. I am buying a German trailer here and I will not pass inspection without an ISO 50mm ball mount.

The bigger issue you are likely to run into is the electrical requirements of a European trailer versus one for the US market. In Europe they have separate circuits for all the lights on a trailer. Here in the states we have one circuit for both left brake light and turn signal, one circuit for both right brake light and turn signal, one circuit for all running/tail lights, and one ground. Five, 6, and 7-Ways have additional circuits. Since you are already in Germany it would be best to have a local shop set up the vehicle with the proper connector.
