Installing the Brake Light Relay on a Key-Start 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
Updated 04/30/2018 | Published 04/29/2018 >
Question:
I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I am installing an Invisibrake System. I have also installed the Hopkins taillight plug and play harness and ran the wires to the front of Jeep. I have installed the 6 way connector with a charge line for the battery. My Jeep is a key start, that means open brake system. Wiring schematics really confuse me. Is there a video on installing the brake light relay on an open system. Really frustrated with the instructions and schematics. Please help

I did some checking and the brake light relay # RM-88400 is not required to flat tow the 2017 Jeep Cherokee though there may be circumstances where it is needed. I have included a link to the only video we have showing installation of the relay on a 2017 Jeep Cherokee for you but it is a push-button start so not all of it will apply to you. I have also included our picture showing how it gets wired in the normally open configuration.
The explanation of that diagram is as follows:
1) Remove the blue wire from the kit. This wire is not needed for normally open applications.
2) Locate the brake-light-switch wire in your towed car.
3) Remove the brake light fuse.
4) Cut the vehicle brake light wire a few inches away from the "cold" side of the brake light switch.
5) Attach the relay to the wiring for the RV braking monitor. The diagram shows where the green wire attaches the relay to either a Roadmaster Even Brake or BrakeMaster system.
6) Connect the black wire of the relay to the brake light wire near the brake light itself using the included blue butt connector.
7) Identify a fuse that is only powered when the ignition is in the "run" position and not when it is in the "tow" position. Pull the fuse. Insert the fuse into the slot closest to the fuse blades, then insert the fuse tap into the empty slot in the fuse panel.
8) Using the attached blue butt connector, connect the red wire from the brake relay to the wire from the fuse tap.
9) Ground the white wire to your towed vehicle's frame.
10) Secure the relay with the included wire ties.
