How to Install/Uninstall the Back on a Thomas Payne Recliner

The Thomas Payne recliners, like part # 195-000018 that you referenced, should come apart fairly easily.

When you install the back it will basically click into place. When you remove it you simply move the tabs so that you can lift the back off.

If you got the back off of one without having to mess with the tabs then it probably wasn't installed correctly and you will want to make sure that it clicks into place next time you assemble it.

So the recliners are already installed in our RV. We need to get to the plug ins behind the chairs because they have come unplugged. If we could get the back off one of the recliners, we could plug them back in. Any suggestions on how to get the back off under this situation? Poor design on Grand Design's part.

@Dorothy Exactly. They're basically just interlocking tabs so you'll push the recliner back a bit to and then pull upward to release them.

The tabs are on the inside of the recliner... On the back you will see a flap of fabric you can pull up; you will see the tabs on the inside closer to each side, they are just interlocking tabs. There is a photo on the question I liked that will point out the tabs.

@DavidB my recliners are bolted to the floor of the slide. it's a very tight space, and can't reach that area. I can lift the flap on one side but not able to reach other side. thanks for your help.

Ok, you'll have to unbolt the feet from the floor then to get to the back.

@DavidB the tabs on my recliner barely budge and there is no good way to squeeze them together. It's almost like I need to simultaneously spread apart each side of the bottom of the recliner for it to unlatch. I don't believe that is the intent though. Can you please provide detailed instructions or pictures of how to unlatch it?

Those tabs are what you use to remove the back. Since the recliners are no longer available I don't have any on hand to have a video made of the removal process.
