Empty Ride Quality with Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs Installed

Question:

I was wondering if the ride quality changed any after installation of the air bags when not pulling a trailer as opposed to not having the air bags installed. Can all the air be released from the bags or do you always have to maintain at least five pounds in them even when not towing? The description also says that the capacity of the bags is 5,000 pounds. Is that the max tongue weight of the trailer or load or does it also include the weight of the truck? Thanks

The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2709 referenced in your question will not affect the ride quality of your truck when it is empty or you're not pulling a trailer. This is because unlike typical jounce style springs, the air springs on this system can be manually adjusted to account for a heavy or dry load, giving you a nice, level ride regardless of what you're carrying or pulling.

The minimum air pressure for the springs is 5 psi, which you will want to maintain even if you are not pulling your trailer. This allows the bags to retain the shape properly and prevent them from wearing out prematurely. You will not feel 5 psi in the air bags, even with an empty load.

These springs feature a load-leveling capacity of 7,500 pounds, which refers to the added tongue weight from a trailer or cargo on your truck bed. Keep in mind that this or any suspension enhancement system will not increase the vehicle's weight-carrying capacity.
