There is not a specific lifespan for a weight distribution system. If maintained and the system is properly rated for your towing setup, it can potentially last for a long time. When determining if it should be replaced, you will just want to take note of its various components, checking for excessive wear, rust or corrosion. Also keep in mind that individual parts can usually be replaced if needed without replacing the entire weight distribution system.
If you find that you do need to replace the system, or a few of its components, please let me know what manufacturer/model you currently have, or your system's total tongue weight (tongue weight of fully loaded trailer plus weight of any added cargo from behind the rear axle of tow vehicle), and I will be happy to recommend a new system or replacement parts for your existing unit.
I have also attached a couple articles on weight distribution that you might find helpful.
