Question:
I have an 87 mastercraft prostar with what I assume is a matching mastercraft trailer. I had a set of bearings go bad and have substantial spindle damage and need to replace a hub assembly as well. What parts would I need for repairs? The current spindle is welded in and I am thinking a new axle would be the fastest easiest repair. Thanks.

Based on the information you sent, you will need to find the size of your bearings, weight capacity of your trailer and axle, and your bolt pattern.
You can determine your bearings size by either finding the stamped part number on them or by measuring them. To measure them, use a digital caliper like Item # PTW80157 to measure the spindle at the bearing seats. Measure both the inner and outer bearing seats on the spindle as well as the spring seat to get the most accurate measurement possible so that you find the correct replacements. I have linked articles and pictures to help. With this information, I can recommend replacement bearings and hubs.
Given that your spindle has substantial damage, I recommend considering the replacement of the axle and all of its related components. You will need to find your axle's weight capacity, spindle size, and length as well as the bolt pattern to replace it (normally sticker/plate on axle with most of information). For example, if your axle has a 3,500-lbs capacity axle with standard spindles that is 89 inches long then you could replace it with Dexter Trailer Axle Item # T3584F-8974. If you want to get everything in a kit (brakes, hubs, drums, race, seals, axle, etc.) like the Trailer Axle w/Electric Brakes Item # e43SR then you would also need to know the bolt pattern.
Send me more details on your trailer and axle and I will make a correct recommendation for everything you need.
