Question:
My son is looking at a 2017 Chevy 2500 crew cab, 6.5foot bed, 4WD with a duramax. He wants to install a slide in camper which has a 9foot base so its going to overhang with the gate down. He also wants to pull a 21foot mastercraft on a tandem axle trailer probably around 5000 lbs. The truck has a hitch receiver thats bigger than the normal 2inch I think 2 1/4inch or 2 1/2. What are his options and limits to extend the trailer ball safely? Thanks

We do offer hitch extensions that can be used when a truck has a slide-in camper and also needs to tow a trailer. For a 2-1/2-inch receiver tube we offer several lengths of hitch extender/reducer that are shown on the linked page. These fit into the 2-1/2-inch receiver on the truck and both extend length and reduce the receiver opening down to the popular 2-inch size. This allows use of a 2-inch ball mount.
You will want to select the item with just the length needed to allow the trailer's tongue to clear the back of the slide-in camper. For instance, Curt part # C45048 has two hitch pin holes to allow its length to be 24- or 34-inches. It can also be trimmed down to the smaller size if desired.
