Proper Location of Inlet and Outlet Lines When Installing Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler
Updated 08/31/2017 | Published 08/30/2017 >
Question:
I am installing one of your bar and plate trans coolers. My factory lines flow in from the bottom of the cooler and out the top. Should I re-route the lines so the ATF flows in from the top of cooler and out the bottom?? It seems more efficient that way. Thoughts??

When installing a plate-fin transmission cooler such as the Derale Series 8000 # D13503, it does not matter how the cooler is oriented as it relates to the transmission lines and their flow. The fluid will move through the cooler by way of the line pressure from the transmission. Having the inlet on the top or bottom will not affect or prevent proper flow of the transmission fluid.
If it is easier to simply keep them as they are installed in your vehicle, this is perfectly fine and the unit will work great.
I have attached a couple of articles on transmission coolers that you might also find helpful.
