Load range capacity varies based on the tire size and brand, so without knowing either, it's hard to say. For example, a load range D tire in size 145/80-12 has an average capacity of 1,220 lbs, while a load range C tire in size 185/80-13 has an average capacity of 1,480 lbs. So, in this case, the load range C tire has a greater capacity than the load range D tire. It's best to check the weight capacity of an individual tire to make sure the load range will be sufficient. With a fifth wheel, 15%-20% of your trailer weight will likely be on your hitch, so your trailer tires won't have to support the entire load. Of course, if you do prefer tires that can support a heavier weight, a greater load range certainly won't hurt.

Our 15 inch special trailer tires come in two sizes, 205/75-15 and 225/75-15. Our 205/75-15 tires at the greatest load range have a maximum capacity of 2,150 lbs. Based on the figure 10,000 lbs being your gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), your tires are more likely size 225/75-15.

At a load range C, the Karrier 225/75-15 tire # AM10251 has a maximum load capacity of 2,150 lbs. If this is the tire size that originally came with your trailer, then this size is likely fine to use.

The load range D tires in this size, such as the Provider Radial Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM2257515, support a maximum load of 2,540 lbs and would certainly be sufficient. Four load range D tires of this size would support a 10,160 lb load.

We also offer a load range E tire, the Westlake Radial Trailer Tire, # LHWL304, which supports a load of 2,830 lbs. Four tires of this size and load range would support a load of 11,320 lbs. This tire also comes with a 5-year warranty and 2-year complimentary roadside assistance.

I'm also attaching a tire FAQ page for you to check out as well as a few video reviews of these tires.

For your 16.5 inch wheels will have a capacity limit. For instance, you will have a capacity of 3,040 lbs using a wheel like the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 16-1/2" x 6-3/4" Rim - 6 on 5-1/2 - White Powder Coat # AM20720DX or a capacity of 3,530 lbs when using the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 16-1/2" x 6-3/4" Rim - 8 on 6-1/2 - White Powder Coat # 17-163-7. This will put the load range of your tires at F, G, H, or J but you will still be limited by either the tire, the wheel, the axle, or the suspension to the weakest component. When looking for tires, make sure you know the load rating and the speed rating to ensure you will be able to transport your boat at the desired speed.
