Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Have always been satisfied with all the tire products that I have purchased through etrailer and there is no issue with the actual product this time BUT I am a bit disappointed that the brand new tire arrived with a manufacturer date of Mid July 2021.....9/10 months old already.

by:

The online information on how to determine bolt pattern and measure a wheel was very useful to help me determine what size tire to order, since I was planning to use some rims I already owned. Once ordered, the 2 trailer tires arrived quickly, but a day apart (?). I had them mounted on my rims, balanced, and then swapped them out with the old wheels. No installation problems, and the trailer pulls nicely as always. Now we shall see how the tires wear over time.

by:

I recieved my tires and wheels yesterday. I was in need of these quickly since I was leaving on a trip the same week. Dana M. at etrailer hooked me up with the right tires and wheels for my trailer and the shipping was as promised. Thank you guys for a great transaction. I would definitely buy again.

by:

I need to mount and balance these but they look like good tires. The sidewall is thinner due to the "C" load range but that should be fine and hopefully they are very durable.

by:

Its a trailer tire, what's to say? Time and milage will tell, then I'll review as to durability and endurance. I received it in only 3 days which is amazing, and what arrived was just what was ordered; as always with etrailer. Great service, good products, fair prices.

by:

Product was received quickly and fit great! I would use etrailer.com again.

by:

A great tire for your travel trailer. I ordered one for a spare.

Nice tire, great price.

Review from a similar Karrier Radial in Trailer Tires and Wheels

Unfortunately these only lasted 2 years and less than 8,000 miles before the belts "slipped" and the tires ballooned and got tall and round. I pull a 10k GVWR two-axle toy hauler weighed at 7800 lbs on the axles. These survived two 2600 mile trips and a few shorter trips at up to 65 mph. 3 of 4 tires ballooned and I replaced them before they blew. I filed a Kenda warranty claim and they denied that they could see anything wrong in the pictures. etrailer said Kenda handles warranty claims for these.

Comments
Kenda does indeed hold a 5-year limited warranty on these tires. It seems that our customer service department is in the process of getting that warranty claim issued for you.

Tire was back ordered, I waited, not needed right away. New tire has a date code of 5/21, 14 months old already. Also ordered a halogen light. The box was 2.5 times too big. Halogen light was unwrapped and unprotected in the box. I hope it works. Big fail on this one!

Comments
I am so sorry that this happened to you! Was your light damaged in any way?
-- Etrailer Expert Sierra K - 07/15/2022
Light was scratched, and cover had rubber marks on it from the tire. I was replacing an identical light. My old cover was fine, so I used what I had. I made it work.

Great tires. I have them on my 42' enclosed 3 axel. Packed everything we own, 32,300 lbs and went from upstate western NY to SC, pulling it with my Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi, totally overloaded and they pulled nice ! Then the trailer sat in storage, still loaded and didn't lose any air in 8 most. Would buy again for sure.

Tire order was delivered on time with all accessories. I put 75psi in the Kenda Kendra ST205 75R Class D tires and installed on my McClain tandem axel trailer. Perfect match for the trailer. Perhaps i will write a review after a year of fishing. I normally travel 5k miles a year fishing from Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.

Delivery was fast and wheels were individually boxed in heavy shipping cartons. Rims and tires were perfectly mounted and were blemish free.

The styling and quality of the rims are outstanding, as are the 8 ply tires. Huge improvement in appearance and load handling over the galvanized rims and 6 ply tires.

The customer service at etrailer is the best I've experienced in a long time. You can buy from etrailer with confidence.

Ordered 5/26 with a promise of delivery 6/3 .. tires were delivered 5/28 .. $10 less than my local dealer if he could even get this model .. he is a Kenda dealer, he did relate Kenda trailer tires are the best out there. etrailer is the best.

Been on over a year still looking like new. Tread wear is excellent, no indications of any stress on sidewalls, no cupping or any othe indication of uneven wear. Thoroughly satisfied. Would buy again, but given how they are wearing it may be a few years.

Very economical choice to step up to a load range D tire.
I had no luck locally finding a decent tire under $100ea so on a whim I checked etrailer. I bought (7) with free shipping and the tire quality looks good.
I knocked off one star because dealing with the staples in the shipping boxes is a PITA and must be removed to recycle.

WORST experience ever! I purchased a set of tires/rims for my trailer that didn't fit so I purchased another set and returned the new set via UPS. eTrailer did not refund my money and they kept the returned tires/rims. My UPS receipt proves that both were delivered and signed for bur etrailer said that they never received the return and refusd to refund my money.

I used these tires on my wife's pop up camper. The camper is 1,900 pounds dry with no gear. With coolers, chairs and other camping gear, I would guess 300-400 more pounds. Tires are holding up good.

Comments
My wife sold the camper. I assume that the tires are still good.

  • What Wheel Sizes Are a Fit for a 225/75-15 Trailer Tire
Any given trailer tire fits on a range of wheel widths. A 225/75-15 tire will fit on 6, 6-1/2, and 7 inch wide wheels but not a 5-1/2 inch wide wheel. I have included a link to the 15 x 6 inch wheels that we carry that will accept tire size 225/75-15. I have also included links to a couple of info-articles on tire sizes and trailer tires for you.

Steel and aluminum trailer wheels of the same size and bolt pattern will have the same rating. One is not better than the other in that regard. Aluminum is superior for corrosion resistance but tend to be more expensive. The D is not a size indication but a load range indication. Any given tire will usually have more than one load range option in the same size. The deeper the letter in the alphabet the higher the weight capacity. However higher capacity wheels and tires do not increase...

  • Trailer Tire Recommendation to Replace a P215/75R15
It's a smart idea to remove the P215 tires from your trailer since they weren't meant for use on a trailer. The P actually designates that it is for a passenger vehicle. Either size you are interested in would work well. I like going with the largest tire available that will fit since you will get more capacity, more ground clearance, and a slightly smoother ride quality. The part # AM10251 would work well for you. I attached a review video for you to check out as well. Both Kenda and...

I recommend the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire, part # AM10251. This is a Load Range C radial tire with a 6-ply rating and has a maximum load rating of 2,150-lbs at 50 psi.
