Expert Reply:
The Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH83JV requires a minimum of 1-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the receiver opening of your hitch according the manufacturer, but we have customers that have confirmed it will work without it.
If you want an adapter to follow the manufacturer's recommendation, I have a work around option for you. I recommend using a hitch extension like the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long # C45791. This will reduce your hitch's tongue weight capacity by 50% but will allow you to use this Thule T2 Pro bike rack on your 2017 Toyota Highlander.
