Question:
I have a 1996 Jayco 12UD pop up camper and a 2016 Ford Edge SEL AWD with factory towing package. The pop up does not have electric brakes. I would like to add them. It has the square brake mounting plates on the axle. It has a 2200# Dexter Torque Flex axle. I also need the brake controller, wiring and the 7 pin plug for the Tow Vehicle and Camper. Can you please help me sort the proper parts. Thanks

Let's start with your Jayco Pop Up Camper.
To add electric brakes, you will need to have hub-and-drum assemblies already installed. If you just have idler hubs like the Dexter # 8-258-50UC1-EZ, you will need to install hub-and-drum assemblies that are compatible with the trailer spindles. The numbers stamped into your trailer's existing bearings and seals will help you determine the proper hub-and-drum assembly. You will also want to make sure you choose an assembly with the same bolt pattern as your existing hubs. I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of hub and drum assemblies for 2,200 pound axles if these need to be installed.
To add electric brake assemblies to the 2,200 pound Dexter Axle, you can use the etrailer.com Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-2, which will include both the left hand and right hand assemblies. These will work great as long as your axle has a 4-bolt mounting pattern on the flange.
Then, if you need to add a 7-way connector onto the trailer, I recommend the Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20042. This is a pre-wired connector that measures 3 feet long.
Now we can move to the vehicle side.
if you already have a 4-way connector installed on your 2016 Ford Edge as part of the towing package, you will just need to install the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This will include everything needed to install a brake controller and 7-way connector in your vehicle. I have attached the installation details for you to review.
If you do not already have the 4-way connector, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118669. The T-One connector will plug directly into existing wiring on your Ford Edge.
Lastly, for a trailer brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is a great proportional brake controller that will power your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Ford Edge. It includes a digital display with continuous diagnostics to alert you of any issues. The Prodigy P2 is well known for its reliability and ease of installation.
I have included demonstration videos on all of the products mentioned as well as helpful articles on adding electric brakes to a trailer and installing a brake controller from scratch.
