Question:
Do I have to unhook the factory trailer brake system on the truck noew? It does not work properly and I want to buy a regular brake controller.

If you were to unhook that factory integrated brake controller on a 2015 Chevy Silverado it would cause an error message to appear that would have to be cleared by a Chevy dealer. There is a way around this though.
Leave the factory controller connected and use wiring harness # 3016 to plug a brake controller in. But you will need to remove the blue wire from the end of this harness that plugs into the truck. Then you would attach a length of wire, # 10-1-1 sold by the foot, route it through the firewall, under the vehicle, back to the trailer connector. At the back of the trailer connector remove the wire that is in the 7 o'clock position and tape it up and stow it out of the way. Then connect the new wire you routed to the 7 o'clock position.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
