Updated 11/25/2024 | Published 11/14/2024

Question:

2017 Silverado 2500 that has its own integrated brake system. Braking system is very weak and has no issues according to dealer. Do you have an available options that I could purchase that would be plug and play with out cutting any wires and also prevents and truck service lights from appearing with an after market controller?

Yes, I do Brad. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness item # RED26CR. This is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your Silverado. The Liberty has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob.

The included plug and play adapter will give you a super easy install. The port you're looking for is located inside a black compartment behind your emergency brake.

Thank you for the fast response. Are there also any options for my truck that would have the abilities but also control more than 2 axels, and with a controller that I would not have to drill out the dash. Even if it cost a little more.

@Brad You're welcome! Happy to help! There are a couple of other options. The best one is going to be the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness item # TK57HR. Similar controller but compatible with trailer's having up to four axles. A plug and play adapter harness is also included.

Good evening so I ordered the prodigy p3 like you recommended and installation was simple with provided harness. However i am not able to get this to recognize any trailer connected while my favtory system does recognize them. Any ideas? I have triple checked everything and verified trailers which are new 100% work and do work with my stick factory system. Thank you

@Brad Welcome back! You'll need to disconnect your factory brake controller. This should just be a plug on the backend of the unit. Typically the plug in harness overrides the signal from the factory controller but in your case it is not. The Ford's have to be flashed at the dealership so this shouldn't be a computer issue.

@JerredH thank you I will give that a shot. Hopefully this is not going to throw a service light in my truck. If it does do you think I can plug it back in and then just run 10gauge blue wire from the p3 and splice into my 7 way plug?

@Brad Absolutely! That's a fix we've seen used many times to bypass that factory brake controller.
