How to Bypass Factory Brake Controller in 2019 Silverado 3500 With Prodigy P3

Question:
I want to install a Tekonsha prodigy 3 to run electric over hydraulic brakes on my fifth wheel trailer. 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 Duramax. How do I bypass stock dash installed brake control and add the Tekonsha? Thanks

Hi John; to install the Prodigy P3 # 90195 all you need to do is unplug the factory brake controller and plug in the new one using the # 3016. You can also use part # TK57HR which is the brake controller and custom wiring harness bundled together. Since you have the factory controller you will also have to take the truck to a local dealer and have the computer flashed so you won't get errors.

These instructions above are incorrect. You must run a blue 12 gauge wire the entire length of the truck from the new Tekonsha brake box. You must keep the original brake control (in dash) connected. The new blue wire goes direct from the Tekonsha to the 7pin blue wire in the back of the truck. You will get errors on the tekonsha without this wire “no trailer connected “.
