Winch Recommendation for Rolling Logs onto Trailer

Question:
I read your very information article on hand winches, but Im still unsure which winch is right for my application. I need the winch to roll logs onto the deck of my sawmill. The deck is less than one foot off the ground and I think two car ramps would do the trick to get the logs over the rail. My thinking is to mount the winch to the rail opposite the logs and run the cable around the log and back to the winch/winch plate. I guess you could call it a rolling load, but I will have a sudden incline. Depending on length, logs can weigh a few thousand pounds, but the winch wouldnt be supporting all of that. What would you recommend for my situation? Thanks,

It's somewhat hard to give an exact figure on the winch capacity you would need but your best option would be to go with one rated for at least the weight of the logs to be on the safe side. The Dutton Lainson Winch part # DL10786 has a 2,500 lb capacity and has a built in brake so it's going to be a great option.
Then for cable you would need the part # DL24102 which has the same capacity.
