It's almost like it rusts a little and the rusted bearing or axle needs to have the rust broken to turn.
Is there anything to oil without screwing up the brake?
It's a very nice winch. The only problem I had was in assembling, the handle the spring/spacer/washer & bolt seemed the wrong lengths. You could unwind the handle to far, right off the end of brake threads. With a shorter spacer and bolt and no spring it works flawlessly. There were no instructions. I'm a mechanical engineer but perhaps I screwed up? I don't think so.

The spring that is intended to go onto the end of the drive shaft may have been placed onto the shaft before the handle was threaded onto the winch. The spring, spacer and flat washer must be in place on the end of the drive shaft. If the spring is not present in this location, it was probably placed on the shaft before the handle was installed.
The winch on my recently purchased used boat hoist was too small. After talking with the engineers at Dutton Lainson, they recommended this winch for the hoist capacity, plus a little extra reserve. It mounted easily to the existing bolt pattern and works like a charm. The boat goes up and down so much easier. This is a super heavy duty industrial winch. You won't be disappointed. Very high quality.
ETrailer had this in stock, shipped and received very quickly. I could have purchased this right from the manufacture, but they wanted $250 plus shipping. . As always, ETrailer under promised and over delivered.
The installation instructions very clear. I use it on my pontoon hoist and it is fantastic. Great mechanical advantage, very little effort to lift the boat.
