Updated 08/30/2016 | Published 08/26/2016

Question:

I have the Air force One completely installed on my 2014 Honda CR-V. The system is working with the motorhome hooked up but when I pull the breakaway switch the system will not activate.

When the breakaway switch will not activate the air cylinder to apply the brake pedal on the SMI Air Force One # SM99243, the first thing to check is the inline fuse at the towed vehicles battery. If it is blown it will have to be replaced.

If the fuse is good the next thing to check is that the air lines and check valves are properly installed. If the airline in is routed to the out and the out is routed to the in, the system will work when attached to the coach but the breakaway system will not work. If the check valves are installed backwards the system will not charge and will not work when attached to the coach.

If the lines are routed properly, the next step would be to make sure the system is charged from the motorhome and run one black wire from the operating unit to the positive post of the vehicle battery and the other black wire to the negative post of the vehicle battery. If the unit does not activate the breakaway, the electronic valve in the unit is not working. This is a very rare circumstance and would require that the operating unit be replaced.
