Morning. I have a harbor freight 40 x48 inch small trailer with slipper springs that Id like to soften up by replacing with the double eye springs and shackle set. Could you confirm this is the right match and since I have a square axle can I substitute square brackets for the U shape? To switch to double-eye spring suspension I recommend getting parts individually since the u-bolts cannot be swapped out of kits.

The spring in the kit is # e84SR. We have a few different u-bolt kits for square axles including # CE23102 for 1-1/2 inch square axles. For a 1-3/4 inch square axles you can use u-bolt # 175130 and plate # 116308. And for 2 inch square axles we have # CE23103.

You will also need a new hanger kit since double-eye springs use different hangers than slipper springs. Kit # APS4 is a popular and common options that contains 2 front and 2 rear hangers, shackle straps, shackle bolts, and nuts.
