Installing Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller in 2001 Toyota Tundra Wired for Curt Controller

Updated 04/27/2016 | Published 04/23/2016

Question:

I currently have a Curt Discovery brake controller installed in my 2001 Toyota Tundra. I would like to get a better brake controller. Is it possible to plug the Prodigy p2 into the wiring that was put in for the Curt? Or is there an adapter I can get so I can plug the prodigy in?

Since you've already ran the wires for your Curt Discovery Brake Controller # C84VV, installing a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 will be easy, however the # C51515 wiring adapter that plugs into the Curt brake controller is not compatible with the Prodigy P2.

A new wiring pigtail will come with the Prodigy P2 that will be compatible with the port in the back of the brake controller. I've attached a review video of the brake controller that shows the new pigtail and the installation port.

There is no adapter available to go from the Curt wiring plug to the plug needed for Tekonsha brake controllers. To install the Tekonsha wiring pigtail, you can cut off the plug end of the # C51515 wiring and use the included butt connectors to connect the new wiring pigtail to the blunt cut ends of the existing wiring.

I've also attached a video of this brake controller being installed in a 2002 Tundra for you.
