Question:

We are having a terrible time finding this type of equalizer hitch for our pop up camper, due to a steel plate that is in the way. We could weld something onto the frame if we could find spring bars 16inch - 23inch long, OR 35inch long and at the very best 39inch long. That would be perfect and require no modifications. Bought new car, camper, and now cant tow it.

So there's an obstruction on your trailer frame that prevents you from installing the chain hanger brackets where they need to be, is that correct? We have the perfect solution for you. The Reese Bolt-On Chain Hangers, part # RP58305 should work very well for you if you have access to the side of the trailer frame. Since you won't be able to release the tension on the chains by using the latch on the frame brackets, you'll jack up the front of the trailer and the rear of the tow vehicle (while they're hitched together). This will relieve the tension enough so you can attach the chains to the frame bracket.

The Reese Round Bar system you mentioned is compatible with trailers that have fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weights ranging from 200-600 lbs. The weight of any gear stowed in the cargo area of the tow vehicle behind the rear axle also needs to be considered tongue weight. The system includes the weight distributing shank, but the properly sized trailer ball is sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use # A-90 or for a 2-5/16 inch ball, use # 19286.
