The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 is a class-leading product with excellent user-friendly features, proven reliability and high ratings from our customers. It is an ideal choice in a proportional type brake controller, one that will slow your trailer in direct proportion to the slowing of the tow vehicle for smoother performance.
The P3 has the capability to handle up to four axles worth of electric drum brakes so it will be well able to operate your triple-axle braking application. It also has the flexibility to work well with EOH (electric-over-hydraulic) brakes by selecting that mode of operation from the menu.
You will want to see if there is a brake switch above the brake pedal. If there is then use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the wires. You are looking for one that only has power when you step on the brake pedal. If it has power with the head lights or turn signals on it is not the correct wire. A lot of vehicles with air brakes do not have this wire which connects to the brake controller red wire.
The white wire needs to ground to the negative battery terminal. Black goes to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker, and blue is output to the trailer brakes. I recommend using installation kit # 5506 for the installation. If the truck does not have a 7-Way connector then you will need to have one installed so instead of # 5506 you could use # ETBC7.
