I have older sears x cargo with no keys one lock number 2856 and the other is 2858 can you help me out also I was wondering what key you are using and brand

Since there isn't a key number 2858 listed as a standard lock number for the Sears boxes most likely you have the 2856 on both of your lock cores but the 6 looks like an 8.

The correct replacement key you would need is the part # THKEYN2856. The company that makes this key is Thule.

Sears 20SV Roof Top Box Lock/Key Issue. My carrier box is stamped 2862. However the original keys were numbered 2852 which are coming up nonexistent on this, Thules, and x-cargo sites. I recently purchased N2862 from etrailer which dont work. Any suggestions??????

If the lock core has 2862 stamped on it, the replacement key you mentioned purchasing should work. Sometimes with a brand new key, it may take a little work to engage the lock mechanism the first couple of times. Try inserting it and wiggling it around, even tapping it LIGHTLY with a mallet or something similar. If this still doesn't work please let me know.
