Is a Capture Plate Needed to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a Curt E16 Hitch

Updated 08/13/2015 | Published 08/12/2015

Question:

We have a Curt E16 hitch in our new Dodge Ram 2500. Our fifth wheel currently has the capture plate for a pullrite superglide hitch as we had that hitch in our last truck. Can we remove the capture plate and replace it with another plate or do we need a whole new king pin box? Where would we get just a capture plate?

Expert Reply:

You do not need a capture plate for the Curt E16 5th wheel trailer hitch. Capture plates are exclusive to PullRite hitches and are used to help activate its automatic sliding feature. You would just need to remove the capture plate on the pin box to use the Curt hitch.

Be sure to use some grease # L11390. Or, if you do not want to deal with grease you could always use a lube plate, # 16721.
