Question:

Hi, I recently picked up an older model gooseneck horse trailer. It needs to be rewired so Im looking at kits. My truck is a 2008 Silverado 1500 with a 7 blade hook-up, tow package, and a brake box and gooseneck hitch installed by your company. I would like to get something that would allow me to use the brake box and 7 blade hook-up without adapter. What would your recommendation be for a wiring kit for lights and brakes for this trailer?

Since you said you have a 7-way blade connector on your Silverado I would start with the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, part # H20046. This is an 8 ft long harness with the 7-way trailer connector. If you need a shorter harness, you can check out part # H20044 which is a 6 ft long harness with the connector. You will want a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to make sure you match the wiring on the trailer side connector to the functions on the vehicle connector.

I then recommend using a junction box like part # 38656. You would mount this to your trailer frame and use the posts inside the box to attach the wiring. This makes it much easier to run the trailer wiring and the harness wiring.

You will need wiring and the connectors to complete the wiring. For the wiring you can use part # DW04914-1 which is sold by the foot. So if you needed 16 feet you would enter 16 in the quantity box. To run the wiring for the brakes you will need to run a wire to both sides so I recommend part # 10-1-1.

For ring terminals you can use # 44-5310A. I also recommend using the loom clamps, part # A0250 when running the new wiring on the horse trailer.
