Question:
I have a Reese 54936 Trunion head, and we recently purchased a new trailer and I need to upgrade the bars. Will the new bars fit this head? I cant seem to find any info online about this particular head.

I checked with my technical contact at Reese on the weight distribution head part number 54936 and this item is no longer active. None of the current trunnion bars will work on that head so you'll need to choose a new system for your new trailer.
When you select a new system for your new trailer you will want to measure the trailer's fully-loaded TW using a scale like etrailer # e99044 (or using the methods shown in the linked article). To this you need to add the weight of anything in the truck that sits behind the rear axle, such as a generator or loaded cooler. You want to choose your new WD system to match your total effective TW to ensure the system is stiff enough to move some trailer TW forward onto your front axle, but not so stiff that it creates odd handling from the trailer. Ideally your TW will fall into the middle of the system's operating range.
The link provided will let you view all WD systems. Click on your total effective TW figure to see compatible systems. You can also use the filters on the page to choose your hitch size and the type of brakes on your trailer, electric or surge, to see compatible systems.
For example, if you need a 2-inch system with sway prevention that is rated for a TW of 900 - 1000-lbs then a great option is the Reese Strait-Line # RP66084 which includes the shank. All you need to add is the hitch ball, such as # A-90 for a 2-inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16-inch.
You may care to review the linked article on WD systems.
