I spoke with my contact at Dexter Axle and if there is any question regarding capacity, he recommends going with a magnet for a 7K axle brake assembly. The magnet is interchangeable so if you do indeed have brake assemblies for a 6K axle, it will still work for you. The magnet will be just a bit stronger but will not cause you any issues.
Currently we offer 2 options when it comes to brake magnets for 12 inch x 2 inch brake assemblies.
Trailer Brake Magnet, # BP01-180, fits:
Dexter 12" x 2" 6K
Alko 12" x 2" 6K and 7K after 1988(not centerline)
Hayes 12" x 2" 6K and 7K after 1988(not centerline)
And
Trailer Brake Magnet, # BP01-225, fits:
Dexter 12" x 2" 7K
